Urgent & Afterhours Care
Where do you go for reliable health advice for you and your whānau?
Urgent & Afterhours Care
If you are having a medical emergency, please call 111 immediately.
Most General Practices Teams have an afterhours phone service. If you are enrolled please call your normal practice 24/7 and you will be assessed by a nurse who will direct you to the most appropriate place for your care.
If you are unenrolled or from out of town call Healthline on 0800 611 116 24-hours a day and a health professional will tell you the best next steps to get the care you need.
MidCentral has only one Urgent Care Centre that is open 8am-8pm Mon-Sun located at City Doctors in Palmerston North.
City Doctors,
22 Victoria Avenue,
Palmerston North
This service is designed for diagnoses and treatment of
urgent clinical health needs such as illnesses or injuries that need immediate attention but are not life-threatening.
If you are enrolled in MidCentral we encourage you to call your regular General Practice Team first -even after hours as your call will be diverted through to a nurse who will assess your needs and direct you to the most appropriate place for care.
If you are unenrolled or from out of town please call Healthline first and a nurse will assess your needs and direct you to the most appropriate place for care.
You can call Healthline 24/7 for free on 0800 611 116.
- You can choose to speak with a Māori clinician if you are calling between 8am and 8pm.
- Interpreter services and NZ Relay support are available.
